Exhibit features the works of 11 Texas artists using 3D technology
RapidArtists, a fine art project, has opened its 2014 exhibition in the lobby of One
Arts Plaza.
In its third year at One Arts Plaza, the free exhibit is open to the public.
Started in 2009 by SculptCAD Founder Nancy Hairston,
RapidArtists is a collective of Texas-based artists using 3D technology and
printing resources to create sculptures that are of their own creative
expression.
"I thought it would be interesting to see what these
artists came up with if they had access to 3D printing and imaging tools that
would not be within reach as a media or medium,” says Hairston. “For the last several
years, the experience has been transformative, expanding the creative process
and creating a shift in thinking about how art comes to take its place in the
physical realm.”
This year’s sculpture exhibition features the work of 11
talented Texas artists including Morehshin
Allahyari, Shelle Carrig, Heather Ezell, Heyd Fontenot, Heather Gorham, Mark
Grote, Nancy Hairston, Stephen Hopwood Lewis, Shane Pennington, Shawn Smith
and Brad Ford Smith.
The exhibit, which will be on
display for 30 days closing on October 5, provides a unique experience for
those visiting the District for other activities such as the annual Arts District
Fall Block Party, TEDxSMU, Fashion Market at Fashion Industry Gallery and shows
and exhibits at the numerous performance halls and museums.
For visitors to the Arts
District, One Arts Plaza offers free garage parking after 5 p.m.
with restaurant validation. Surface parking is also available for
$5 or valet parking is available for $5 with restaurant validation.
